Spring bulbs are this week’s ALDI impulse buy — Plus, touchscreen garden gloves? And, help me plan this space!

The garden stuff just keeps sucking me in at ALDI this year. Last week I told you about the Suncast garden cart I picked up — which I used extensively yesterday to haul around mulch and garden soil, by the way. This week’s impulse buy? Spring bulbs! I picked up several packs, including the lily bulbs shown (at $1.89 per package of six).
Speaking of ALDI gardening finds…
This week’s ad is chock full of more gardening and yard related ALDI Finds. Here are a few of my favorite ALDI Finds from the new week’s ad — which started Sunday 4/7 in Sunday market stores, and will start tomorrow 4/10 in Wednesday market stores.
The ALDI Find of Confusion
ALDI is advertising these Gardenline touchscreen gardening gloves in this week’s ad. Now, I like my phone as much as anyone else… but I’m picturing the state of my current garden gloves here, and imagining the sort of stuff you’d track all over your phone while trying to garden and touchscreen at the same time. Is it just me, or does this seem like a good idea to you?
The ALDI Finds of Useful
Garden finds I do see as being useful, though, include women’s garden boots at $12.99, a Gardenline heavy duty kink free hose for $16.99, cute children’s garden tools at $3.99 each, and a cordless blower for $39.99. Also returning this year: Gardenline seat cushions at $6.99 and chair cushions for $12.99 — as well as the 9 foot aluminum umbrella at $26.99! These (and more) patio items tend to go fast, so get there early if you are in the market. Then, you can adorn that patio further with $7.99 azaleas or hydrangeas.
On the non-gardening ALDI Finds Front, all sorts of potentially handy additions to your Easter or Passover celebration. They last had these padded folding chairs in their ad back before Thanksgiving, when I picked up a couple because I had family coming into town for the week and not enough seats. (They are way nicer than the folding chairs I already had, so everyone was fighting over the ALDI ones, lol.) Check the ad further for everything from glassware to hosting utensils to platters to food storage containers.
And on the food front? Try escaping the store without Torino cookies (which look very Milano-like), as well as Specially Selected everything croissants, or their dark chocolate covered espresso beans. Yum. Oh! And let’s not forget a pound of butter for just $1.99, for all of your holiday baking.
Now, speaking of gardening
Since our backyard chickens have been gone for a while, it seemed high time to take down their tangled fence and open up that space to other uses. So in addition to trundling things around the yard in my handy new garden cart yesterday, Middle School Guy and I finally got that cleared out! Now, the question looms:
What the heck do I do with this space?
I’m not attached to the scraggly bushes, so figure on either getting rid of them entirely or pruning the heck out of them to see if they are salvageable. But, given that the bare ground that was previously enclosed by the fence has been, shall we say, very well fertilized over the years, it seems kind of a waste to just turn it back into grass. I do have a few garden beds already going, where I mainly grow tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.
So, what (ALDI or non-ALDI!) suggestions would you have for a good-sized space like this… keeping in mind that I’m not a master gardener?
What’s up with ALDI Finds?
ALDI Finds are limited time special buy items that are available in stores only while supplies last. So if you spot something you like, be sure to pick it up while you can! What caught your eye among this week’s ALDI limited time special buys?
