School Lunch Extravaganza and more favorite ALDI Finds this week
This week’s ALDI ad is all about back-to-school lunches! First up: SimplyNature unsweetened applesauce cups are back. You have to watch applesauce in general; a lot of the single serve cups contain added sugars — although this is something we tend to think of as just fruit. Both boys here are always partial to this seasonal SimplyNature applesauce, particularly the apple cinnamon, at $1.79 for 24 oz. What flavor are you getting?
Here are a few more of my favorite ALDI Finds and sale items from the new week’s ad starting either 7/21/19 or 7/24/19 (although, even in Sunday markets, many of the new non-food Finds don’t release until Wednesday).
ALDI Food Finds this week
More school lunchbox fun this week: Look for things like Clancy’s pretzel mini twists ($1.29 for 16 oz in my ad), 20 ct Clancy’s snack combo for $4.99, a Clancy’s sea salt veggie straws multi-pack ($3.89 for 8), and a 20 oz Happy Farms string cheese/snack cheese variety pack ($5.49) + price drop on the 12 oz string cheese to $2.49.
You’ll also find a couple of limited-time flavors of Moo Tubes in the special buys dairy case (speaking of sugar, but at $1.55 for 8 it saves you from waiting for a coupon deal on the name brand) — my ad also lists the regular flavors on price drop for $1.39.
On the lunchbox note, this isn’t a weekly Finds item but a newer regularly-stocked item that bears revisiting here. I know that some of you were waiting for deli sliced meats to show up at ALDI, so check your store! Mine started carrying ham & salami as a regular item back in May, and recently also added turkey. (I hate standing in line at deli counters, and this lunch meat gets a thumbs up from everyone here.)
ALDI has started some new “ALDI Savers” advertising this week — which is basically just stuff that’s on temporary price drop. Look for these red & white tags throughout the store to spot the lowered prices. On that note, speaking of lunch: This week’s ALDI Savers include 40 oz Peanut Delight creamy peanut butter for $2.99, and 30 oz Berryhill grape jelly for $1.49.
On the meat and produce front: Many regional ads include cheap strawberries, cherries, navel oranges, and watermelon, as well as boneless skinless chicken breast family packs at $1.69/lb. On the it’s still summer front: 33 oz Sundae Shoppe Junior Pops, $1.99, and 3 lb Parkview bun length wieners, $2.49.
One for the grown-ups, too: 36 ct Barissimo single origin coffee, $13.99.
ALDI Non-Food Finds this week
This iridescent flatware kind of brings to mind the reusable straws ALDI advertised a few weeks ago — and you’ll find much more like this to outfit your college student’s dorm room or first apartment in this week’s and last week’s ad. Pop-up hampers are just $5.99 (although they look really similar to the $5 ones at Five Below, honestly), and an Easy Home LED all-in-one lamp will run you $19.99.
I got home from ALDI this morning and then realized that maybe I should have picked up a couple of these Crofton mini bakeware pans for the toaster oven. Middle School Guy loves to bake, and this way he could make little things without heating up the whole oven. At $2.99, I just might if it’s still there when I go back. If you need a toaster oven to go with, too, there’s a good size Ambiano toaster oven for $29.99 — or an Ambiano double hot plate for $24.99.
More college student cooking: A ten piece Crofton cookware set is just $14.99, Crofton microwave dishes are $4.99 each, or pick up a Crofton mini fry pan, flexible cutting board four pack, or titanium knife set at $4.99 each.
Back to school lunches — I will tell you that these Crofton banana storers have been the source of much amusement over in the Almost All ALDI Facebook group.
On a related note, if you have never read the customer reviews on the Hutzler banana slicer, grab a cup of coffee and prepared to be entertained.
